The Skateboarding Academy Awards, commonly known as The Otters, is an international online awards ceremony honouring achievements in the skateboard industry. Winners are awarded the otter certificate, officially the Academy Award of Merit, that is much better known by its nickname The Otter. The awards, first presented in 2014 at the Metropolis Hotel, Auckland, New Zealand are overseen by the Academy of Muckmouth Publications.
Brandon Westage might not have won skater of the year at Thrasher in 2013, but he's claimed the big one this time. Ishod took out SOTY 2013 - a polarising choice considered by many skaters. The Otters respect Ishod, but have a different opinion about who took out 2013. Muckmouth and The Otter Awards proudly award young, brave Brandon Westage - MSOTY.
Dishy Dylan (as he's known by his peers) didn't win the the most beautiful skater in Muckmouth's article from last year. He was deemed too lean in the arm department and after countless debates with a very critical author, the most beautiful was awarded to Kenny Anderson. However, if we're simply talking most handsome, Dylan wins hands down. There's no debate. No argument. That face is fucking stunning. Well done, babes xox
Clint's insane part last year and his behaviour during Thrasher's King of the Road was absolutely outstanding. This tomfoolery and rail ballyhoo and has earned Clint a SILVER OTTER. Congratulations Mr. Walker. Next year it could easily be a gold.
Dennis has done so much cool shit over the years, he's getting a Gold Otter just for being a cool cunt. Simply watching Dennis do a slappy 50 on the street is enough for me to give this a man this most prestigious award.
To be fair, Dave Bachinsky did the most insane mini ramp skating in 2013, but the run of the year has to go to young Luan with these 3 cab flips in a row. The 3rd one is a doozey.
Now there's been some sick manuals lately. People have been pushing the bar higher and higher every year but no one can deny Daewon is the fucking man and has been since Love Child. His shit at The Berrics 2UP was seriously redonk.
At only 2 mins and 48 seconds this short film almost got missed by many but the soulful sounds and graceful tricks by these exotic stuntmen did not go unnoticed by the Muckmouth academy. A true sight for sore eyes.
