BADGERSI've met a lot of old bitter bastards in my 28 years of skateboarding, and nothing winds up a moody old skateboarder like hungry young skaters that fucking rip. They are 'styleless', 'boring' or 'all they do is 1080s'. That is nonsense. Sure there is a huge amount of spinning going on within the prepubescent skate scene, but come on, if you could bang out a 900, you'd be doing them all day long as well. I love these kids, not in a pedo way, but fuck they are cool. Every era of skating has talented youngsters, the current crop just so happen to be a lot better than Chris Branagh ever was. It's simply evolution, so don't be a sad old hater, embrace that baby blasting a McTwist over your head. It's as cool as fuck. These little badgers are the future of skateboarding, so let them in. . . but do definitely give them a slap if they start getting too big for their size 4 boots. ASHER BRADSHAWPretty much everyone has seen this footage of a 6 year old Asher tearing around the Venice snake run doing massive ollies like a micro Cab with textbook lipslides in the deep bowl. This was 4 years ago. Now Asher is winning comps at the Vans Combi Bowl linking huge stales, bluntslides, 540s and all sorts of other shit. Just have a look. We were at Venice just last year when we saw Asher's younger sister about to drop in the deep bowl. My brother gently asked her if she's ok and if she knew what she's doing. She simply shrugged him off and dropped into a perfect Lien to tail in her pink Hello Kitty helmet. The world has gone crazy. KIKO FRANCISCOFriends with Asher, Kiko is another Venice kid. At 12 years old he's getting on now and should probably leave this bowl skating to the young whippersnappers. It really takes a toll on the body. Kiko skates with the presence and stability of someone much older. His effortless style reminds me of a young Hosoi and his trick selection is equally mental. I honestly can't comprehend what's going on. CJ COLLINSCJ is a walking (skating) paradox. An 11 year old prodigy whose skating reflects his (older) peers. Skating with the likes of Pedro Barross has really rubbed off on him. He skates like an bigger, older man. But he's tiny! I can't even imagine what he's going to be doing in 2 or 3 years once he gets taller than 5 foot. EVAN DOHERTYTony Hawk is keeping a close eye on The Big E. He's brilliant. That's all I'll say. He is way more than just 900s on vert. Check this part. He is the future. MINNA STESSAt barely 9 years old Minna is an unstoppable force who puts most men double her age to shame. This little ripper is not just the future of female skating, she IS the future. JP GARCIAYou can just imagine what JP is like. His MaJor Crew part is but a short glimpse into this cheeky little bugger's life. If he keeps it up, he'll be a force to be reckoned with. ANNIKA VRKLANAnnika Vrklan is ten. She’s a skateboarder, a surfer, a gymnast, soccer player, diver, dancer, and more. She's better than me at anything she tries and does tricks dressed as a bunny rabbit. KAHLEI STONE KELLYWe've all since this little two year old Kahlei - but watch it again. He's in a nappy with no shoes. He's a little New Zealander living in Australia. Two. TWO! If you are reading this (or having it read to you as a bedtime story) Kahlei, we'd love to interview for Muckmouth - hit us up: [email protected]
