Who were your early smoking influences? Mine was Angela from “My So Called Life” but were your parents big smokers, or was it a crew of older smoker kids in the neighbourhood or what?
My old man was a smoker, He died at 57 from heart disease thanks in part to smoking and my dad was fucking awesome. Right off the bat I'd just like to say I think smoking sucks and I wish I could just quit. Cigarettes are addictive as fuck and they get you by the balls and they make you feel like shit. Sure it's funny to joke around about but I'd just like to tell any kids that are reading this that if they haven't picked it up yet I would advise them to never try it. I recently started sucking on e-cigs to try to cut back.

What was your first set-up, loosies and a disposable lighter? Or did you go straight into some pro zippo and a pack of 20 steez?
It was so long ago I barely even remember man. I tried smoking a cig out behind my high school one day and within a few weeks i was buying packs. Zippos are cool but they're kinda heavy to skate with and I always end up losing them. 

You’re known as a burly smoker but what do you think of the more technical smokers? Like Welsh? Do you ever try to get mad tech, like lit 360 tosses into the mouth and shit?
I'm more of a traditionalist, I feel like it's more about the way you smoke then what tricks your doing. I'll try to blow some double smoke rings now and then but mostly it's just inhale and exhale.

What's the youngest kid you’ve hooked up with a cigarette at a skate spot?
I'm not really a big fan of handing them out, people start bumming too many cigarettes off me and i'm liable to snap. I've given cigarettes to kids that were under 18 but if they look like they're 16 or under i'm going to have to see some ID.

Your Boss, Mark “Zales” Gonzales smokes cigars, essentially the longboard of smoking, do you give him a hard time for this?
I think cigars are pretty cool actually, pipes might even be cooler. I've been considering getting a hookah for my living room. I was thinking I would try to smoke the e-cigs when I'm out skating and shit and just smoke the hookah when I'm at home. Anything to get away from these dumb ass cigarettes. Also I don't care what other people smoke, they can smoke pole for all I care just don't try to smoke mine and we're cool.

How would you feel if Nike or another big corpo came into the smoking game? Glad to see the money and recognition, or pissed off about them taking the rug from under the feet of smoker owned smoke stores?
I'm pretty sure that big tobacco has held a monopoly since around the time of the reformation if my memory from high school history class serves me correctly. That being said I believe that there's still room for the little man. Personally I've been smoking an independent brand called Smokin' Joes for about the last year. They're a "generic" version of an all natural, no additive free cigarette like American Spirits but about half the price.

Modern smoking involves a lot of travelling, filming trips to China etc, how do you deal with the flights? Booze and Benzo oblivion or some kind of Nicotine Replacement Therapy?
Well I quit drinking about a year and a half ago and I generally try to stay away from prescriptions so that's not really an option. Usually when I'm going to fly I'll get a tin of copenhagen to chew but now that I've been smoking these e-cigs i'll probably just smoke those. These e-cig things are pretty rad, they taste like fucking blueberries man. I thought I would hate that but it's actually pretty damn good, and there's no tar.

Say you hit a rock on your way to some harsh tranny ditch, you’re going down and you’ve got a lit cigarette in one hand and a Snapple in the other, what do you save?
That is just a really stupid question because I would never skate with a snapple in my hand. come on man, I might be pretty stoops but i'm not a full on retard.

You’ve just moved, is there a discernible difference in smoking styles between nor-cal and so-cal?
They don't let you smoke on the beach down here! That's some fucking bullshit man. I always try to be respectful of others and not do it right around other people so just leave me the fuck alone. I hate that kind of shit and when some smug asshole comes up to me and reminds me that it's illegal I kinda want to kick him in the teeth. That shit actually happens, I believe in "to each his own." Your not going to get sick or die from my second hand smoke when we're out in the open fucking air. It reminds me of this law they just passed in San Francisco where they won't let the gay guys walk around the castro naked anymore. That shit fucking sucks, If it isn't physically hurting someone else, then shut the fuck up and mind your own business. It's just the same as when some random asshole has to remind me that it's against code to skate down the sidewalk. Fuck off!

Yes the joke is old, Fuck smoking. As far as Freedumb Airlines goes, I'd just like to say that if you want to support a skater run businesses then Freedumb Airlines is about as skater run and DIY as you're going to get. I started this whole thing with $100 I got selling shit at the pawn shop and I'm operating it out of my 2 bedroom apartment with my wife. I'm about to start getting a good team of dudes together and we're going to put back into skating, hooking people up, building shit to skate, throwing demos and other events to get people psyched and basically just want to try to have a good time and skate as much as I can while I still can. For now, the graphics are going to all be done by me but in the near future, I plan on bringing in designs from guest skater artists that I have respect for. Freedumb Airlines isn't going to be concerned about the bottom line, making our investors happy, or pocketing a bunch of dough because it's basically just me and my friends and above all I just love skateboarding.
